How to design a server rack
To design a server rack: confirm cabinet U-height and depth, place the heaviest gear near the bottom, reserve PDU and switch space, plan airflow and cable paths, then document the elevation in rack design software such as BuildYourRack.
1. Measure constraints
Note total U, max depth, power circuits, and whether the cabinet is two-post or four-post.
2. Place gear by weight and heat
Mount dense servers and storage lower; keep switches where patching is reachable; leave blanking panels for airflow.
3. Document in BuildYourRack
Recreate the layout in the builder, add I/O routes, and export or share before the install window.
